5 Way To Prevent Hair Fall
If you suffer from hair loss, you are not alone.
Hair loss, known as alopecia areata, is a common condition that affects more than 80 million Americans.
So how do you know if you're leaking more than usual?
On average, most people lose about 100 hairs a day. And when new fibers grow to replace the lost fibers, most people don't notice the difference. However, if the strands grow less or not at all and you start to notice a receding hairline or thinning areas, you may be experiencing hair loss.
Dermatologists talk about ways to stop hair loss, what causes it, and whether it can be reversed.
These methods can be helpful:
1. Eat High Protein Diet
You may not be getting enough protein each day, which can affect hair.
Especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, you may need to increase the amount of protein you consume.
"You need 40 to 60 grams a day," . "You can drink your protein, you don't have to eat it."
Other options to get your daily protein needs include beans and vegetables, eggs or Greek yogurt.
2. Use a soft brush made of natural fibers.
Using a soft brush with natural fibers may be able to promote healthy oil levels in the hair.
The keratin proteins in your hair are laid out like roof tiles, so by gently brushing them in one direction, starting at the top and working your way down to the ends, you can help smooth and condition your hair's cuticles. Brushing your hair daily will also help you prevent hair in the shower.
3. Use a mild shampoo suitable for your hair
The purpose of the shampoo is to clean the hair of dirt and excess oil. Excessive shampooing can damage your hair.
Sulfates and some other ingredients have been linked to dandruff, dry scalp and brittle hair.
There is no evidence that any shampoo ingredients cause hair loss, but they may contribute to hair health. If you find that your hair is too dry or frizzy, try a shampoo that is as natural as possible. Most hair loss shampoos cost less than about $30 and are not covered by insurance.
4. Do not chemically process or bleach your hair
Chemically treating hair with methods such as bleaching damages hair by breaking down protein molecules called keratin.
If you are concerned about hair loss, limit the use of dyes, highlights, peroxide treatments and perms.
5. Avoid hairstyles that pull your hair
Hair is flexible, but research shows that you can only stretch your hair so much before it becomes permanently damaged.
Hairstyles such as buns, tight braids and ponytails can pull hair away from the scalp and loosen the bond between hair and scalp over time.
